Markitech / Marketing MCP Server / What Is MCP for Marketing
What is MCP, and why should marketers care?
The Model Context Protocol lets an AI assistant use real tools. For marketers, that means an AI that can read and change the platforms you run.

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside systems. An MCP server describes a set of tools, such as "get campaign performance" or "publish a Tag Manager workspace", and an MCP-compatible AI decides when to call them while it works on your request.
Without MCP, an AI can only tell you what to click. With a marketing MCP server, it can pull the report, compare it with last month, find the broken tag and propose the fix itself. The question that matters is control: which tools the AI can call, and what happens before a change reaches a live account.
How to do it
- List the platforms you want the AI to work in, such as Google Ads, GA4, Tag Manager, Search Console and Meta.
- Choose an MCP server that covers them in one place, so context carries from the ad account to the tag to the analytics event.
- Add the server to your MCP-compatible AI client and sign in.
- Connect each platform through its own authorization flow, never by pasting passwords.
- Start with read-only questions, then approve your first change once you have reviewed exactly what it will do.
Common mistakes
- Connecting a server that can write to live accounts without an approval step.
- Using a separate single-platform server for every tool, so the AI cannot connect cause and effect across them.
- Sharing platform passwords or long-lived API keys instead of using OAuth.
- Treating the AI’s first answer as final without checking the data it pulled.

What Is MCP for Marketing questions
Is MCP only for developers?
No. Developers build MCP servers, but marketers use them through an AI assistant in plain language. You ask a question and the AI calls the tools.
Which AI assistants support MCP?
Claude and a growing number of AI clients support remote MCP servers. Markitech's MCP server uses OAuth sign-in and is read-only today; changes are made in the Markitech app.
