TikTok Pixel setup through Tag Manager
Install the pixel once, map the right standard events and confirm TikTok receives them before you spend.
Updated November 4, 2026 · Markitech team
The TikTok Pixel measures site actions from TikTok traffic and feeds TikTok’s optimization. Most problems come from the event mapping, not the base code: purchases sent without value, the wrong standard event names, or duplicate pixels firing from a plugin and Tag Manager at once.
Markitech reviews your Tag Manager container and loads your pages in a real browser to see which TikTok events actually fire, then proposes the tags, triggers and variables needed to send clean standard events.
How to do it
- Create or find the pixel in TikTok Ads Manager.
- Add the pixel base code through Google Tag Manager with consent rules where required.
- Map site actions to TikTok standard events such as ViewContent, AddToCart and CompletePayment.
- Pass value, currency and content IDs from the data layer.
- Verify events in TikTok’s event tools, then add the Events API for server-side coverage.
Common mistakes
- Running a platform plugin and a GTM pixel at the same time.
- Using custom event names where a standard event exists.
- Leaving value and currency off purchase events.
- Optimizing campaigns on an event before it has steady volume.

TikTok Pixel Setup questions
Should I use a plugin or Tag Manager?
Use one. Tag Manager gives you more control over consent, parameters and debugging.
Does Markitech support TikTok standard events?
Yes. It maps your data layer events to TikTok standard events and proposes the tags for approval.
